Object

Any made thing — a vessel of Intention, Pattern, and impact, carrying the spirit in which it was made to everyone who uses it.

An object is the smallest unit of the built world: a bowl, a garment, a chair, a tool, a card. It is not beneath the attention of a civilization. The things people handle daily teach them, wordlessly and constantly, what care looks like and what they are worth. A tool made to last and to be repaired says one thing; a tool made to be replaced says another, and says it every day.

The made thing carries its making. Who made it, under what conditions, from what, for whose benefit — none of that vanishes when the object is finished. This is why the object belongs to this Pillar rather than to the economy: it is an embodiment question. Natural materials are preferred not as aesthetics but because they keep the thing inside the cycles of life, able to be mended, and able to return.

Against the object stands the commodity, which is the same physical thing with its lineage stripped off so that it can be exchanged without anyone having to know anything. Restoring the object means restoring what travels with it: where it came from, whose hands, and what it is for. Provenance on an artefact is the same discipline as provenance on a page.

A Cell's objects are few and deliberately humble: a notebook, a set of cards, whatever is put in the middle of the table each week. The notebook is the floor the whole network stands on — a hand copy on any paper counts exactly as much as a printed one — and that is a design decision, not a concession. Nothing in the Game requires an object anyone cannot make.
