Sabbath
The sacred pause — rest kept as a discipline rather than taken when exhaustion forces it, and reclaimed as gift rather than law.
Sabbath is a period of stopping that is scheduled in advance and honoured whether or not the work is finished. That is the whole of it, and the whole difficulty. It is not idleness and it is not recovery time appended to overwork; it is intentional stillness through which a person or a body reconnects, renews, and receives. Rest is holy: not permitted, not earned, holy.
It is load-bearing because a body that cannot stop cannot discern. The pace of the work is set by what the living can actually sustain, and a movement that burns its first three percent in eighteen months has lost more than it built. Sabbath is also the structural answer to manufactured urgency — the old order's most effective instrument, which works by making every hour contestable. An hour that is not available is not contestable.
In the Game, the smallest form is daily: pause, ground, breathe, remember, realign, recommit. Larger forms are a stopped day each week and the rest face of the season, the quarter of the cycle in which a body deliberately does less before the next Quest begins. The Turn itself carries a miniature of it — open in silence, close in gratitude — which is why those two minutes are not decoration. In the System, the same law appears as the andon cord: anyone may stop the line without penalty, and stopping is treated as a contribution rather than a failure. Stop takes effect at once, and only the one who said it lifts it.
The larger cousin of sabbath is Jubilee: the periodic reset at the scale of years rather than days, where debts are released and what has accumulated unjustly is redistributed. Both rest on the same recognition — that a system which never stops accumulates distortion, and that the release must be scheduled, because it will never be convenient.
