The Arc of Play
The path a player walks from first hearing of the Game to playing it fluently, in named stages, so that you always know where you stand and what comes next.
Shorter than The Sovereign Path and pointed at a narrower thing. The Sovereign Path is a lifetime's becoming; the Arc of Play is the specific road from someone mentioned this to me to I can play this well — welcomed, oriented, initiated, playing, and in time carrying it to someone else. It is the arc the lessons of the module deck are arranged along, and its stages are what make a deck a journey rather than a pile.
Its discipline is Just in time. A lesson reaches a person at the moment their play needs it and not before, because a whole curriculum handed over at the door is a wall and one lesson handed over when you are about to need it is a door. The Arc is what tells you which lesson that is. It also names who walks beside a new player: the one who invited them, as a companion and never an authority — the same relationship as the Carrier in the Game, and the same posture as the Guide, whose office is greeting and the handing of words.
It is load-bearing because it locates the Pledge correctly. The Pledge belongs to Initiation (as stage), which comes after welcome and orientation — so nothing a person reads or is taught before that point asks a commitment of them. That ordering is what keeps the deck a gift rather than a funnel, and it is stated explicitly on the lessons themselves: reading this, you have pledged nothing.
In the Game its practical use is for whoever is holding the door. Knowing where someone is on the Arc tells you what to hand them next and, more often, what to withhold — which is the harder half of the office.
