訳の注

天国（Heaven） — 「天堂」でも「極楽」でもなく、天国を取った。正典の天国は死後の行き先ではなく、正しい関係のうちにある今ここのものごとのありようだからである。地上の天国は文字どおり地の上のことであり、日本語の「天国」が日常語としてすでに「この世のここが天国だ」と言える柔らかさを持つことが、この選びを支えている。ØNE は訳さず、音写もしない。どの言語でも同じ字で立つ。

細胞（Cell）と車座（Circle） — Cell は 細胞。生きて、養い、分かれて増えるという含みが、この語の要である以上、「班」や「組」では足りない。Circle は 車座——上座のない、顔を向け合う輪。ただし Circle の一語には二つの役がある。車座は集まりの形であり、細胞はまだそこにない。なお 輪（第五八三行、超細胞の古い呼び名）と 環（第五八四〜五八九行、および第七四六行、教えの同心の環）は、原語がどちらも Ring であるために、ここで意図して別の字に分けた。

クエスト（Quest） — 音写を取った。「探求」も「使命」も、一季のうちに成し遂げられ、あとから指させる一つの本当のことという具体を落としてしまう。カードの上の語として、外来の響きを残すほうが誠実である。

週の集い（The Turn）と転回（the turnings） — The Turn は毎週の集まりであり、週の集いとした。一方、年に四度の至と分は 転回点（第一九六行）、聖なる弧の蝶番も 転回（第一六〇行）である。英語では Turn が三つを担うが、日本語では週のものだけを別の語に出した。混ぜれば週の拍が暦の拍に呑まれるからである。

季（Season） — 「季節」ではなく 季。太陽の一つの転回から次まで、およそ九十日の、ゲームの一巡り。春夏秋冬の情緒ではなく、数えられる区切りである。

灯火（The Flame）と灯を継ぐ（Pass the Flame） — 灯火。炎の激しさではなく、運ばれ、手渡され、消えぬように守られるものとして。運ぶ人は 灯の継ぎ手（Carrier）である。「運搬者」でも「保持者」でもない。あなたに火を渡し、決して変わらない、その一人。

献げもの（The Offering） — 毎週、自由に卓の真ん中に置かれるもの。「供物」は祭壇へ、「寄付」は制度へ向かう語なので避けた。献げものは、誰かへ向けて自ら差し出すという動きを保つ。

帰属細胞（Home Cell） — 「母細胞」ではない。上下ではなく、抱えられる場所だからである。超細胞（Supercell） は細胞の語族の中に留めた。三つ以上の細胞が互いの家となったもの。

提案（Proposal） — 季シートに載って上へ送られる、一文で書かれたより良いやり方。日本語の「提案」は合議の場の語としてそのまま通る。

うまく訳せなかったもの — ØNE、LIØNSBERG、LUV、Player+、ØSphera、CurrentSee、Kontrolle は原字のまま置いた。Kontrolle は、英語の中でもドイツ語のまま置かれることで、ありふれた「統制」から区別されている。その区別は訳すと消える。Throughput は スループット とした。「産出量」では速さが落ち、「有効産出」では会計の語になる。道（The Way） と 主権者の道（The Path） は、日本語ではどちらも「道」に寄るため、後者はつねに主権者を添えて分けた。智慧（Wisdom） は「知恵」ではなく「智慧」を取り、善（Goodness）・美（Beauty）・真理（Truth） と並ぶ高さを保った。憲章（Charter） はエージェントの常在の指示に、憲法（Constitution） は民の礎の層に当て、原語の同族を日本語では分けた。ここに挙げたすべては、日本語を母語とする読み手の手によって検められるべきものである。

Heaven takes 天国, not 天堂 or 極楽: the canon's Heaven is not a destination after death but the way things are in Right Relationship, here and now — and 天国 is already ordinary enough in Japanese to be said of this world. ØNE is neither translated nor transliterated. Cell is 細胞, the biological word, because living, feeding and dividing are the load of the term; Circle is 車座, a seated ring with no head of the table. Ring is split on purpose: 輪 for the older word for a Supercell (row 583), 環 for the concentric rings of the teaching sequence (rows 584–589, 746). Quest stays as クエスト, a loanword: 探求 (inquiry) and 使命 (mission) both lose the one real thing a Cell can point to afterward. The Turn is 週の集い, the weekly gathering, kept distinct from 転回, which carries the solstices and equinoxes and the hinge of the Sacred Arc — English uses "turn" for all three; Japanese would let the weekly beat be swallowed by the calendar's. Season is 季 rather than 季節: a counted round, not a mood. The Flame is 灯火, a carried light rather than a blaze, and its Carrier is 灯の継ぎ手, the one who passes the light on. The Offering is 献げもの — not 供物 (altar) and not 寄付 (institution) — because it is placed in the middle of the table by a person, freely. Home Cell is 帰属細胞, the Cell you belong to, never 母細胞 (mother cell), which would make it a parent. Supercell is 超細胞, kept inside the cell family. Proposal is 提案, which already carries deliberation in Japanese. What would not render: ØNE, LIØNSBERG, LUV, Player+, ØSphera, CurrentSee and Kontrolle are left in their own letters — Kontrolle in particular is held apart from ordinary 統制 exactly by not being translated. Throughput became スループット; 産出量 loses the rate and 有効産出 turns it into accounting. The Way (道) and The Path (主権者の道) collapse into one word in Japanese, so the Path always carries the Sovereign with it. Charter (憲章) and Constitution (憲法) are split apart here, where English keeps them cognate. Every choice above wants a native reader before this table plays.
