Wake up

The move before the moves: see where you are, and what you are for, before you gather anyone.

Waking up is the recognition that something is deeply wrong and that it is not you — that the world you were handed is one arrangement among many, and a failing one; and, at the same time, that you were born into the work of the repair. It is named as a move because without it the rest is procedure. A person who has not woken will form a Cell the way one joins a club, and the club will not survive its first hard season.

It is load-bearing for the door. The Invitation reaches someone; what makes them answer is not argument but recognition. The canon's Story calls this movement Awakening, the moment the field is seen as it is, and The Caves names what is being seen out of. In the Game it lands as something smaller and more immediate: I am in this, it is real, and my next move counts.

How it is played. Read The Story of LIØNSBERG, or hear it from the person who carried you the Flame. Ask The one question of one ordinary thing in your own week and let the answer be honest. Say what you are for, in a sentence, before you say what you will do. Then arise and move: the next move is Form a Cell, and everything after it is play.
