Augmented by AI (the disclosure at the door)

Told plainly at the entrance: this work is made by a person augmented by an artificial agent — so regard it as that, and question it.

A body of writing this large cannot be tended by one person unaugmented, and saying so is not an apology. The augmentation multiplies what one being can hold. It also introduces perspectives, patterns and errors that are not fully cohered with, or generated by, that person's consciousness — and it cannot be relied on to know which of its own sentences are which. So the work asks to be read as what it is, and asks to be questioned.

What makes this a concept rather than a courtesy is where it sits and what it does.

It sits at the door. Not in a footer, not in a colophon, not discoverable by the curious. A reader meets it before they meet the work, because that is the only point at which it can change how the work is read.

It is a disclosure, not a credit. Provenance records a lineage on a work and answers where did this come from. This answers a different question — how should you hold what you are about to read — and its content is a limitation rather than an achievement. It is the same move as marking every page Current Best Understanding, made about the instrument rather than the text.

It asks for something. Question it is the operative clause. The disclosure is not discharged by being made; it hands the reader a job, and it is honest only in a body where Every Defect Is A Gift and a correction actually lands.

It is verifiable. The claim is paired with an open record — every change preserved, every revision traceable — so that the disclosure can be checked rather than merely believed. A disclosure without a record is a reassurance.

The alternative postures are both worse. Silent augmentation invites a reader to attribute to a consciousness what did not come from it. Ostentatious disclaiming invites them to discount everything, including what is true. The claimed middle is the plain sentence, said once, at the entrance.
