The Foundation of Trust (the four promises)

What is promised to anyone who picks this up: the history is open · trust is earned by fruit, never demanded by authority · your discernment is sovereign · there is no capture.

Four sentences, and they answer the question a stranger actually has at the door — not is this true but what happens to me if I take it seriously.

The history is open. Every page records its lineage in the open record, and every revision is preserved. What has changed, and when, and why, can be traced by anyone. A body that hides its own revisions is asking to be trusted about the one thing it could simply show.

Trust is earned by fruit, never demanded by authority. You are asked to believe nothing on the say-so of any author, living or dead. Test what is offered against your own experience and the fruit it bears in your actual life and community. By its fruit the Seed will be known. This is the precise inversion of how a canon usually asks to be read, and it is what makes the word canon bearable here.

Your discernment is sovereign. Where something is lacking, fill it up; where something does not belong, remove it; where the map proves wrong, say so and it will be corrected. Every page is held as Current Best Understanding. The reader is not a recipient but a co-editor, and the promise is that a correction actually lands.

There is no capture. No dues, no leader to follow, no central account, no obligation but to ØNE and All. The Pattern Language is a gift, not a contract; anyone is free to stop playing at any time.

Together they are a compact, and it is the compact a person actually decides on at the entrance — before any claim about the world, the crisis, or the Goal can be weighed. It is also a compact with teeth, because each promise is checkable: the record is public, the fruit is visible, the corrections are traceable, and the absence of dues and of a leader is a fact about the structure rather than a statement of intent.

The whole set is a second facing of Trust. Where that row carries trust between players, this is trust in the body and its canon — the thing a stranger has to extend before there are any players to trust.
