Fibonacci

The sequence in which each number is the sum of the two before it — one, two, three, five, eight, thirteen — and the shape this body uses for how it grows and how it makes.

Two uses run side by side. As proportion, the ratio the sequence approaches appears throughout growth and packing in the natural world and has been used by makers for millennia; it is the working core of Sacred Geometry and the most portable answer available to what size should this be relative to that. As a growth model, the sequence describes propagation by relationship rather than by broadcast: each carrier, having received, passes to the next, and the total rises by addition at every step while no centre grows at all.

It is load-bearing because it is the arithmetic of Pass The Flame. One, two, three, five, eight, thirteen, twenty-one, thirty-four, fifty-five, eighty-nine, one hundred forty-four; a week per cycle; by the tenth cycle about a thousand, by the twentieth about a hundred thousand, by the thirtieth about ten million, by the fortieth about a billion. One hundred forty-four Circles, passing faithfully, reach a quarter of a billion people within nine months. That is why the instruction is propagate, do not scale: nothing grows by making the centre larger, and one Cell planting the next is the only mechanism that ever could reach The First Three Percent.

In play, the sequence is also the shape of a Cell itself — three to thirteen people, best at four to seven, dividing at thirteen the way a cell does. And it is a caution as much as a promise. The arithmetic assumes faithful passing; real Circles miss, stall, and stop. The model describes the ceiling of what is possible, not a forecast, and the canon's own timing estimates written from it have already been overtaken.

Held honestly, then: a proportion worth building to, a growth shape worth organizing around, and a set of numbers that should never be mistaken for a plan.
