The Reciprocal Opening of Being and Doing

The spiralling-up that occurs in the interplay of apparent polarities — why practice changes the practitioner, and the practitioner changes the practice.

The canon offers this as a placeholder rather than a finished doctrine, and it is carried here as one. The claim: apparently polar forces — Being and Doing, yin and yang, light and dark, one and zero — do not resolve into a winner but spiral around a centreline, and that spiralling is something like the fundamental creative movement by which life and structure emerge. The canon points at DNA, nautilus shells, and sunflowers as the visible signature, and at Fibonacci as the proportion the spiral keeps.

Its practical sense is the one worth holding first. Doing changes the doer. A person who keeps a small word each week for a season is not the same person who made the first commitment; the Being that acts and the acting that forms Being open into each other. This is why Praxis is defined as the reciprocal unfolding of knowing and action, why Education As Transformation puts the forming of people before the forming of institutions, and why Shu-ha-ri insists a form is broken only after you can hold it — the form has to work on you before you are entitled to change it.

It is load-bearing as the answer to a real objection: why run a Pattern at all, if Spirit precedes it? Because the practice is one of the ways Spirit reaches a person. The Pattern is a servant, and it is also a teacher. Spirit Precedes Pattern and the reciprocal opening are held together, not traded off.

The canon's own framing is tentative — "as a quick placeholder," "this may be something like" — and the invitation attached to it is to stay centred on the line while the new life spirals up around it.
