Prototyping
Building the thing small and early, so that reality can correct it while correction is still cheap.
Prototyping is the iterative manifestation of an idea into functional, living form. It is the practical answer to the fact that nobody's plan survives contact with the ground: rather than arguing about what would happen, you make the smallest real version and find out.
The posture it requires is the one the whole field asks for anyway. What you build first is not the answer; it is a question asked in matter. It will be wrong in ways nobody anticipated, and Every Defect Is A Gift is how those wrongnesses are received — each miss shows exactly where the next improvement belongs. A body that cannot bear its prototype being wrong will defend it instead of improving it, and will ship the flaw at full scale.
Prototyping stands beneath the field's larger sense of Prototype: the first integrated embodiment of an Archetype, maintained not as a monument but as a Kit of Parts that others can take up and instantiate in their own place. Every Instantiation is honestly compromised by local reality, and what returns from those compromises is what improves the Prototype. The loop is the point — prototype, commons, look back, refine the pattern, prototype again.
A Cell's first season is a prototype in exactly this sense. One real thing, one season, small enough to finish and point at afterward. The Quest is not a pilot of something larger waiting in the wings; it is the real thing at the size you can actually do, and what you learn doing it is what tells you what the larger version should be.
