The future triad — Best · Worst · Actual

Three futures held together: the highest that could be, the lowest that could be, and the one actually being made. A compass needs two poles and a needle.

Most visions name only one future, and that is why most visions do not navigate. A single bright image gives a direction but no sense of distance, no scale, and no way to tell whether today went well. The canon holds three, and insists that all three be looked at.

The Best Possible Future is the top of the range: what love would build if we were of one highest mind (Best Possible Future · Heaven On Earth). The Worst is the floor, and the canon asks that it be stared into rather than glanced at — what were humanity's darkest passages, what patterns produced them, and what would those patterns become with more energy and more power behind them (Hell On Earth)? The discipline is not morbid. A person who cannot describe the bottom cannot recognise the first few steps toward it, in a society or in themselves.

The Actual Future is the third and the only one that will happen. Today we are somewhere between the two poles, and from here either can be reached. Which arrives depends — on you, on us, on All — and whichever it is, we will have been the ones who co-created it. That is the whole weight of the triad: it converts a vision into responsibility. The question stops being what will the future be and becomes how do we orient and align ourselves, individually and together, so that we navigate away from one pole and toward the other (Navigation · Alignment · Aligned Will).

Held as three, the triad is a working instrument. The Best sets the aim; the Worst calibrates the stakes and names the failure modes worth guarding against (The Five Collapse Scenarios · Structural Immunity); the Actual is what gets measured, every week, against both (The Score · The gap).
