Story
Meaning carried in time — the form by which consciousness holds who we are, where we are, how we got here, and where we are going.
Nobody starts from a blank slate. Every being is dropped midway into a story already unfolding and navigates by the narrative frame that story supplies. This is why story is not decoration on top of facts: it is the operating layer of a life and of a civilization. Change the story a people lives inside and everything they can see, value, and do changes with it. The old order knew this and ruled by captured stories; the new begins with the recovery of true ones.
The word carries two senses at the table and both are needed. THE STORY, in capitals, is the shared telling that gives a people a shared language — The Story of LIØNSBERG, and above it the story of stories whose top, like every Meta top, is finally ineffable. A story, lowercase, is an honest account of what happened, told in your own voice so that others can use it. Every Quest becomes one of those, and one of them leaves every table each season.
Three things hold Story upright. Stories are updated, not worshipped: when reality breaks through the telling, the work is to change the telling, every story held as Current Best Articulation, including this one. Every true story is a prophecy — each pocket of coherence, each real transformation, told honestly, is evidence of something greater that is possible, and telling them is how hope circulates on evidence rather than on assertion. And stories nest: yours inside your Circle's, inside your people's, inside the greater one, and aligning them is how sovereign lives become a single co-creation without anyone being overruled.
In play it is one of The Twelve Words at the table, and a weekly act. Someone tells one story at The Turn. One story a season, under a hundred and fifty words, goes up on The Season Sheet and travels further than the Circle can. The story that travels is what Pass The Flame hands over.
