Ethics

The discernment that governs the right use of knowledge and power — the question asked before the capability is used.

Ethics is what stands between can and should. It is not a rulebook bolted onto a finished technique; it is part of the technique, present from the first design decision, because by the time a capability exists the interesting choices have usually already been made.

Its ground here is not preference or consensus but Right Relationship: does this act hold ØNE and All in proper regard? That is why Omniconsideration is the operative posture rather than a cost-benefit sum. A calculation that treats some party as an externality has not made an ethical judgment; it has simply chosen whom not to count.

The practical form is a question anyone can ask, and the whole field is arranged so a ten-year-old can ask it: does this make life a little more like Heaven? When two courses both pass, older players ask the second question — is this the highest thing we could do right now, for ourselves and for the whole? Not every good move is the next move.

Three commitments follow for anyone building. Knowledge must serve life, so the measure of a tool is its effect on flourishing rather than its elegance or its return. Technology is not neutral, so the designer owns what the design makes likely. And artificial intelligence must be sacredly governed, in alignment with the True, the Good, and the Beautiful, never used to dominate or deceive — the single ethical claim the canon makes most plainly about the instruments now arriving.

Ethics fails most often not by reaching a wrong answer but by never being asked in time. So the structures carry it: a decision has a review date, anyone may say Stop, reasoning is written down, and no role carries immunity from the people it serves.
