Right Use of Power

Wielding power solely for the flourishing of the Whole, bound by humility, Wisdom, and Logos — power in service of all, never in power over any.

Power in the canon's sense is the rate of doing work: the amount that can be effected in a given time. It is not evil and not optional. As bodies cohere, what they can do in a season rises sharply, and the whole question becomes the gathering and deploying of that capacity — in service of all, rather than in power over any.

It is load-bearing because the most critical problem the moment a person leaves isolation is how to protect the individual and the local from the power of the whole. A federation that can act is a federation that can overreach; the same coherence that makes good work possible makes capture possible. Right use is the inner discipline that pairs with the outer protections (Separation Of Power and its vertical protections, Structural Immunity) — neither is sufficient alone.

Its marks are recognizable in practice: power exercised inside a named Domain; reasoning visible; the smallest effective instrument chosen (Proportionality); the wielder answerable and replaceable; and force, where it is ever used, held to the minimum necessary to restore right relationship. Its distortions are equally recognizable — power used to protect its own position, power used because it is available, power exercised where consent was never sought.

In play, most players meet this as a host, a keeper, or an elder: the small daily question of whether a thing is mine to do, and whether doing it serves the table or my standing at it.
