Involuntarily Left Behind

The mission, in one line: move the whole population from the old to the new, with no one involuntarily left behind.

The word carrying the load is involuntarily. Anyone may decline; nobody is carried who has not chosen to walk; the Game is a free gift and the door is never shut. What is refused is the other thing — that someone is left because nobody came for them, because they were hard to reach, because they had no one, because they were not useful, or because it would have been slower to bring them (Attraction, not promotion, Consent, The Invitation).

It is load-bearing because every large transition in history has had a category of people it did not carry, and in every case that category was decided quietly, by what was convenient, and defended afterwards as inevitable. Naming the line in advance is the only known defence, because it converts we could not into a claim somebody has to actually make (None Of Us Until All Of Us, Dignity, Justice).

It sets the design, not merely the sentiment. A way out that requires literacy leaves behind those who cannot read. One that requires a device leaves behind those without one. One that requires money, or travel, or trust in institutions, leaves behind exactly the people who have least of each. That is why the paper floor is not nostalgia and the plain words are not a style: they are what this line costs (Screens and paper, The grandmother test, Welcoming The Stranger).

It also sets the pace. A body that measures itself by how far its front has got will always outrun its own stragglers; a body that measures itself by who is still with it moves differently, and more slowly, and arrives with everyone (Propagate; do not scale, The First Three Percent, Mutual Aid).
