Migration
The movement of peoples, chosen and unchosen — and the re-rooting that has to follow it if a people is to remain a people.
Migration divides cleanly in one place and nowhere else: whether the moving was chosen. Voluntary movement is a sovereign act, and a body that cannot be left is not a body anyone consented to. Involuntary movement — displacement by collapse, by violence, by water, by hunger — is the same motion stripped of the choice, and it produces a different set of obligations on everyone it touches.
It is load-bearing because of the Moment. One world is dying while another is being built, and the space between them is crossed on foot by very large numbers of people. A Pattern that organizes settled communities and has nothing to say about moving ones will simply fail to describe most of the next decades. And the movement runs in both directions: a diaspora is a people held together across distance, and re-rooting is what happens when a scattered people lands somewhere and has to become local again without ceasing to be itself.
In the Game, the mechanisms that survive displacement are the portable ones, which is most of them by design: a Cell is three to thirteen people by name, not an address; the Turn can be kept anywhere; the Season Sheet is a page; a hand copy on any paper counts as much as a printed one; your Carrier never changes and your Home travels with the relationship rather than the place. A Cell that moves is still a Cell. In the System, the open questions are the hard ones: how a receiving community's commons absorbs arrivals, what a tribe's Cells owe their scattered members, and how the claim on a place left behind is held.
This sits among the significant gaps, honestly named. As the Old World collapses, millions will move — the observation is written; the patterns are not.

Open: Ore: migration is listed as a pattern needed, split into voluntary and involuntary, with displacement, diasporas and re-rooting beside it; none is written. · The claim that a Cell survives relocation intact is drawn from the Little Book's definitions rather than from any page about migration.
