The Field of Attraction

The magnetic field cultivated around a body that is actually doing the work — so that people, resources, and allies are drawn toward it rather than recruited into it.

A movement can push or it can pull. Pushing means persuading strangers one at a time and spending most of its energy on the persuading. Pulling means becoming something recognizable enough that the people already looking for it can find it. The field of attraction is the second, tended deliberately: not a campaign with a start and an end, but a standing condition that runs alongside every other phase and keeps feeding them participants and means.

Five things compose it. Messengers — people of depth and credibility who can carry the thing in their own voice, and who are helped to speak well (Bard, The LIØNSBERG Voice). Messages — one coherent telling that holds the vision, the aim, and the values together, so that what reaches a stranger is not five different movements (Story, Narrative Lens). Stories of transformation — what actually happened in real places, gathered and kept where anyone can find them, because a story of one real change persuades what no argument does (Share the Stories, Testimony). Broadcast — the many channels by which the telling travels, adapted so it is legible to people who share none of the vocabulary (Reaching Us, Universal-Accessing). And invitation, response, and integration — a door that a newcomer can actually walk through, and a path from first interest to real participation that does not dead-end (The Invitation, Welcome a Newcomer, Orientation and Onboarding Process).

The failure mode is the one every movement knows: a field of attraction with nothing behind it. Attention arriving at an empty room converts to nothing, and does damage besides, because the people who came and found nothing do not come twice. The field must follow the work, not precede it — which is the same lesson the movement learned when an invitation to join gathered watchers rather than workers.
