The Forge

The honest register of instruments not yet built — every one commissioned from a named need, so it is specific enough to actually make.

Beside the workbench of tools in hand there is a second list, and it is longer. The Forge holds what remains to be built: a welcome checklist for receiving a new member, a graceful release protocol so no one is involuntarily held, a proposal template, a commitment tracker with the said-and-did ledger, a crisis navigation protocol for when breakage exceeds a body's own capacity, a safety and privacy guide, a federation starter guide, a book of celebrations and rituals, a look-ahead and constraint log, a personal journal small enough to carry — and the deeper universal instruments that would hold the whole kit together: a universal assessment, a system-of-systems lens, a transformation handbook alive at every scale, an adaptation guide for carrying instruments across cultures.

Three disciplines make it a forge rather than a wish list.

Every commission derives from a need. Each entry is tied to a numbered line of General Needs — the anticipated needs of any body — rather than to someone's idea for a tool. That is what makes each one specific enough to build, and it is what stops the register growing by enthusiasm.

An instrument leaves only by proof. When an instrument is forged and proven in real play, it moves to the Workbench. Not when it is finished, and not when it is approved. Play is the gate.

The gap is published. The register names honestly which instruments are in hand and which are not, which means a body reaching for a tool learns immediately that it does not exist rather than assuming its own failure to find it. A backlog said out loud is a commissioning list; a backlog hidden is a lie about the state of the work. The register's standing answer to anyone who reads it is the Builder's: perhaps you could help build them.
