The LIØNSBERG Educational Model
Five principles for a lifelong formation: experiential · holistic · community-based · interdisciplinary · continuous.
Education here is not the transmission of knowledge and skills to the young. It is a transformative process that begins at birth and continues through every stage of life, whose aim is that a person can contribute their particular knowledge, gifts and passion to a community's actual flourishing — and become themselves in the doing.
Experiential. Learning by doing, on real work, in real conditions, pitched to The Zone Of Optimum Development — hard enough to require growth, not so hard as to break the learner. Understanding deepens, invention is provoked, and judgment forms, none of which a lecture reliably produces.
Holistic. Not academic attainment alone but the whole person: empathy, creativity and compassion alongside physical, emotional and spiritual development. A curriculum that divides a being into subjects produces beings divided into subjects.
Community-based. Learning inside the place it is for, with its own knowledge, culture and history — which is what turns study into belonging, and what makes a learner able to see the particular challenges and gifts of where they actually live.
Interdisciplinary. Knowledge from many fields integrated to meet real problems, because the universe is a System of Systems and no genuine problem arrives pre-sorted into a discipline.
Continuous. Learning as lifelong, which cultivates curiosity, adaptability and resilience — and which means no program ever ends and no certificate ever closes the account.
The form the five take is small groups, mentorship and coaching, personalised pace, apprenticeship, and informal learning woven through ordinary life rather than confined to institutions. What they jointly refuse is the factory: the batch, the subject, the grade, and the moment at which a person is declared finished.

Open: The source chapter is written in the past tense of a finished civilization — LIØNSBERG has created a unique and innovative approach — while describing schools and programs that do not exist. Read it as a design, not a report. · Three of the five principles are carried by other rows under other names; the five-principle model as a model sits in none of them.
