The Logic Of Love

Love as an ordering principle and decision framework, not a sentiment — the logic that solves the equation eight billion people are inside.

Love names a relationship. The Logic of Love names what follows from it when a decision has to be made. It is a guiding framework grounded in absolute and unconditional love, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the flourishing of all living beings, and it transcends self-interest and narrow perspective by construction rather than by exhortation.

Run as logic, it produces recognisable moves: prioritise the needs of the most vulnerable and marginalised members of a society and of the living system; cultivate understanding and respect for perspectives that are not yours; choose collaboration and mutual support over competition for shared aims; and act on the interconnectedness of all life by building regenerative rather than extractive systems.

Its load-bearing argument is arithmetic. If eight or ten billion people are to harmonise with one another, the only possible way is for all to harmonise with the one thing they hold in common. What they hold in common is life and consciousness — and beyond that, the Source from which life and consciousness flow. So the only logic that lets everyone's children flourish at once is a logic organised around that Source. This is a claim that can be reasoned about by the religious and the non-religious alike; the logic is the same either way.

That is why this is called a law rather than a virtue. A virtue is a quality some people have. A law is what a system must satisfy to keep working.
