Dialogos

Shared sensemaking in speech — a group circling a thing together until it is seen, rather than contesting positions until one wins.

The form is old and specific. People speak in turn about something none of them fully understands. Nobody is arguing for a conclusion; everyone is contributing what they can see from where they stand, and the group circumambulates the subject, approaching it from many sides. What emerges belongs to none of the speakers and could not have been produced by any of them. It is the conversational form of the same principle that governs OmniSpection: no single vantage can see the whole, so the seeing is done in company.

It is load-bearing because a body that decides by consent has to be able to think together before it decides together. Consent-Based Decision-Making is a procedure for arriving at a decision; it does not generate understanding, and a Circle that jumps to proposals without sensemaking will decide efficiently on a badly framed question. Dialogos is what happens before the proposal. It is also the antidote to the failure mode where the last confident voice sets the frame — weight lessons by wisdom and truth, not recency.

In play it has recognizable disciplines. Speak in turn and let silence sit between turns. Listening is the larger half of the practice. Offer a reading rather than a verdict, and say what you are uncertain about. We Do Not Know is a legitimate and useful contribution. Nobody holds the floor twice while someone has not held it once. Asking Questions moves the circle further than asserting does. And the point is not agreement — a dialogos can end with the thing seen more clearly and the group still divided, and that is a good outcome.

Distinguish it from three neighbours. It is not debate, which selects a winner. It is not a check-in, which reports. And it is not a decision, which is a separate move with its own rules; collapsing the two is how a Circle ends up bound by something nobody actually proposed.
