Ten Thousand Generations

The long horizon on which the Game keeps its deeper score — roughly a quarter of a million years, held at the same moment as this week.

Some traditions teach deciding on behalf of the seventh generation to come, or the fifty-second. Others speak of the ten thousand things as a shorthand for all. This horizon receives that teaching gratefully and extends it across the whole arc of interexistence in time. (The quarter-million-year figure is an estimate from generation length, not a measurement.)

At that scale the picture changes in a specific and useful way. Whole species and civilizations rise, flourish, fall, and rise again inside the horizon of play rather than at its edges — and cyclic cataclysm, the periodic unmaking that has erased worlds and memory before, comes within the field of consideration instead of being unthinkable (Collapse · The Five Collapse Scenarios · Cosmos Is Not Human-Centric · The Great ReMembering).

That is what makes it a design constraint rather than a sentiment. What is built for ten thousand generations must be built to cross such things: knowledge that survives its libraries, patterns that survive their institutions, species that survive their home planets — a Way that can be carried in a pocket, a story, a seed (The Golden Seed · Self-Sustenance and Self-Replication · Screens and paper · Structural Immunity). It is the reason the canon travels as plain words, living patterns and a flame handed on rather than as infrastructure: forms that no collapse can confiscate (Pass The Flame · The Flame · Transmission).

And it runs as a two-speed clock. The Game's clock keeps this week's turn and the ten thousand generations at once: every move small enough to make this week, and every move echoing across the whole arc. A player holds both — the elders teach it as a braid of three strands, those who came before, those here now, those yet to come, woven into one cord (The Turn · The Time Horizons · Generational Time · Covenant Across Time · Chronos · Kairos).
