The Aim Cascade
The chain that connects the deepest why to what you do in the next hour — and the thing to repair when a day full of work leaves nothing behind.
The tiers run downward and each serves the one above it. Purpose — the deepest why, which is discovered rather than chosen (Purpose, Creator's Intent). A uniting aim — the lifelong direction that flows from it: not a goal that finishes, but what a life points at (Mission, Vision, Commander's Intent). A breakdown of the work the aim requires, into its major streams (Work Breakdown Structure, The plan of the whole). Milestones — waypoints inside each stream, datable and recognisable when reached (Milestone). Goals for the season, the ninety-day Quest being the operational unit. Objectives for the week or month. And tasks — the email, the call, the conversation, which is where the whole thing finally touches the world (Feature · Deliverable · Task, Most Important Things).
The value is in the self-check, which runs both ways. What today serves this week? What this week serves the season? Are this season's goals still serving the milestones? Is the breakdown still serving the aim? A person running it does not have to decide each task on its own merits (Prioritizing, Critical Path).
A broken cascade has an unmistakable feel: busy and weightless. Tasks with no objective, objectives with no goal, goals attached to nothing. The tiredness that produces is not the tiredness of work, and the remedy is not to work harder but to repair the chain (Waste, Meaningful Work, The gap).
It nests. A person has one; a Circle has one; a locality has one; the whole plan is one at its own size — and each aligns with the one above voluntarily rather than receiving tasks from it, which is what keeps a cascade from becoming a command structure (Subsidiarity, Holofractal Omnifederation, The Creative Cascade, The 10 Year Grand Strategy).
It is also what makes promising work: the should comes from the cascade, the can is assessed against what is actually present, the will is the promise made, and the did measures what moved (SHOULD-CAN-WILL-DID, Networks of Commitments, The Commitment Tracker).
And it is revised deliberately — at the close of each quest cycle, at thresholds, whenever this no longer fits arrives. A cascade set once and frozen stops being a cascade and becomes a plan nobody believes (Retrospective, Everything Is Current Best Understanding).

Open: Seven named tiers, where the corpus's other planning instruments use three or four; nothing reconciles them. · The claim that purpose is discovered rather than chosen is doing a lot of work and is not argued. · Nothing says what to do when a person's own cascade and their Circle's genuinely conflict.
