The Guild's Nine Fields Of Agreement

The nine things a craft body has to have written down — and the annual agenda that keeps them honest.

A Field of Agreements is what a body has actually agreed rather than what it assumes. For a craft that transmits real capacity, the canon names nine areas the agreements must cover.

The vow as this body holds it, at every stage of formation. Engagement — when and how the craft acts, what is authorised, and what accounting follows. Training — what is taught at each stage, what gates each threshold, and who is authorised to teach what. Recruitment — who is admitted, what the screening is, and what the person who brings a newcomer is responsible for (Sponsorship, Welcome a Newcomer). Release — how someone departs, what is returned, what is preserved, what is forgiven and what is not (The Way Out, The Act Of Release). Other crafts — the patterns of federation, joint work, and coordination (Federation, The Twelve Archetypal Guilds). Non-member sovereigns — how the craft deals with everyone it serves and does not govern: what is owed them, and what boundary is kept (Boundary, Dignity). The wider lineage — how transmission is received, who may claim to carry it, and how such claims are verified (Lineage, Receiving Transmission). Accountability — what happens when a member's drift is suspected, and what happens when the body's own drift is suspected, at each scale (Accountability, Adjudication, Impeachment).

Two of the nine are the ones most bodies skip and then regret. Release — because a body with no written way to leave will improvise one in anger. And the drift of the body itself — because every accountability mechanism most groups write points downward at members, and none points at the group.

The instrument is the annual pass. Once a year the nine are read and revised: what has not been working is named, what needs changing is changed, what has become necessary is added — and the canon says explicitly that the review is not to be perfunctory (OmniSpection, Retrospective, The edition).

It is reusable by any craft body at all, which is why it belongs outside the guardianship domain.
