The LIØNSBERG Quick Start Guide
Your first ninety minutes together: what to read aloud, how to make sense as a group, and how to choose your first Quest.
The Quick Start is for the moment after the yes and before the playing. Your people are gathered — three to thirteen, in a room or on a call — and nobody yet knows what to do with the evening. The Guide fills it: a welcome and an opening round, a long stretch of reading aloud, sense-making together, then the four decisions that make a body.
By the end of the ninety minutes a table has consecrated itself with a name and simple agreements, read and reflected on the Story and the Game together, chosen its first seasonal Quest, set the rhythm for its gatherings and its between-week contact, and named the two or three each person will carry the Flame to next. That last item is why the Guide matters more than it looks: Pass The Flame is begun at the first gathering rather than remembered at the end of a season.
It is load-bearing because the first gathering sets what the table thinks the Game is. One person facilitates and the role rotates from then on. Reading aloud is not a formality — a text held in common in the mouth of a friend lands differently from the same text read alone, and it is how a table finds out whether it shares what it thinks it shares. Keep the opening round short: my name is ___, and I am here because ___. That is connection and witnessing, not explanation.
