Seal the Circle

The moment the gathered choose one another and a gathering becomes a Cell.

It is a short and deliberate act. A name; two to five simple agreements said plainly and agreed out loud; a first Quest; and the sentence itself — we are a Cell. It is written on the card, so that afterward there is no doubt about who is in it and what was agreed (The Circle Sheet, Field of Agreements, Naming).

Why it needs a moment at all: before the sealing, people are visiting, and nothing is owed. After it, there are members, commitments, and a body that can be relied on by others — which is what makes a Cell different from a Circle (as gathering). Handling the transition as an event, rather than letting it blur, is what lets both states be honest.

Sealing is a beginning, not a wall. The membrane stays open by consent: newcomers are welcomed after it, and anyone may leave in peace (Guard the Membrane, Welcome a Newcomer, The Way Out). Then word is sent — by any door the body keeps — and, by the Cell's own consent, it takes its place where the whole can see it, because the body should know a new cell is alive (The Board, Consent).
