Ring 5 - The Game
The outermost ring, and the only one that is not reading: cross the threshold, anchor the practice, form a Cell, choose a Quest, do the work, pass the Flame.
The instruction attached to this ring is blunt and is meant to be: you do not learn this by reading about it. Anyone ready to act now is told to come straight here and skip the rest — the Pattern will teach you as you play. That inversion is the point of arranging a corpus in rings at all. The outermost ring is not the most advanced material; it is the door back out into the world.
It is load-bearing because it closes the loop between knowing and doing that the rest of the structure could otherwise leave open. Everything inward of it — the word, the page, the twenty pages, the evidence, the library — exists to serve play, and a reader who never reaches this ring has received nothing the corpus considers itself to be for. Learning By Doing and Tightly Coupled Learning and Action are the named disciplines; Praxis is their older name.
Its content is the Game's own opening: Form a Cell of three to thirteen who choose to walk together by name; Choose a Quest, one real thing for one season that you can point to afterward; run The Turn each week — what I said I would do, whether I did it, the gap, what I learned, what I will do, what I offer, what I ask; tell the stories; and Pass The Flame to the two or three you know are ready, within a week. Nothing else is required, and everything else is optional.
In the walking it corresponds to the first ninety minutes and the weekly practice — the two stages where a person stops being someone who has read about this. The LIØNSBERG Quick Start Guide is the instrument for the first, and the table is the instrument for the rest.
