The Seven Belts

White · Yellow · Orange · Green · Blue · Brown · Black — not seven ranks but seven degrees of one continuous progression, and better said as verbs than as nouns.

• White — beginning. Clean slate; no cultivation yet recognized, and the door open.
• Yellow — the seed has sprouted. The person is actually practising rather than considering. Usually after one or two seasonal Quests.
• Orange — early growth. Foundational practice established and sustained across seasons. Usually after a first full year.
• Green — emerging competence. The practice bears fruit others can see. Usually after a second full year.
• Blue — integrated embodiment. The practice has become this person's way of being in this Way. Usually after three full years, with demonstrated competence in the fundamentals.
• Brown — deep refinement. The cultivation hones toward mastery, and the person begins to be a resource to others.
• Black — the recognition that the basic capacity to begin the real work has been cultivated. The doorway, not the destination.

The calibrations above are the canon's own rough ones — usually, undated, an estimate rather than a measurement — and the structure is more important than the years. What matters is that the seven are degrees of one unified continuous progression, so the true grammar is a verb: a person is yellow-belting, or green-belting, at some moment, in some Way. The path is continuous; only the recognition is granular. Nobody graduates from Orange into Green; they are seen, at some point, to have been green-belting for a while.

The same seven run in every Guild for its own Way, and again in the universal Way of the ØNE Body, where the 144 Gates carry a person to Blue. Belt levels therefore diverge across the Ways any one person walks — Brown in healing, Green in the word, Yellow in creativity — and that divergence is honoured rather than flattened into a single number. Beyond Black the progression continues as dans.

Nothing here is awarded. Belt Progression carries the discipline: belts are granted long after observation, by the body of practitioners and elders; they are not bought, claimed or self-declared; and a belt is a rite of confirmation of what has already become true. False belts cannot hold.
