The True Self
What the Path uncovers, and what it sheds. The highest place of being and consciousness in a person, from which the transformations toward their potential are guided.
The claim is that a being is not primarily what it has been made into. Underneath the adaptations is something that was there first — carrying the Divine Spark, carrying a Purpose that is this life's and no other's — and the work of the Way is uncovering rather than constructing. This is why Remembrance is the canon's verb: the being is not becoming someone new but recovering someone it already is.
The false self is its counterpart and is not a villain. It is the self that was built to survive — to be safe, admired, useful, unthreatening, whatever the conditions of a particular childhood and a particular world required. It worked. That is precisely why shedding it is a real death rather than a decision, and why Coming Home is described as a return after a dying.
Between the two sits the Way's word for what forms a person: are they being transformed, from the inside, toward what they carry — or conformed, from the outside, to what is around them? Both change a person. Only one of them reveals anything (Transformation And Conformation).
The corpus is uneven here in a way worth naming. True Self has a page and the false self does not — one of a family of half-built polarities the canon's own ledger flags, where the light pole is written and its mirror is missing. Yet almost everything else in this section depends on the pair: the calling can only be heard past the adapted self; the belt witnesses what a person can actually do rather than who they present as; inexhaustibility is named as a capacity of those who have done the inner work.
