Player

A person who has chosen to play the Great Game; an artificial agent is never one.

A Player is not a rank, a credential, or a role given by anyone. It is a decision: someone stops waiting to be served, organized, or told, accepts the Invitation in their own words where others can hear it, and begins. If you can love, help, or make and keep a commitment, you can play. Silence is never a yes, and nobody is governed who has not agreed.

The word is load-bearing because it names where responsibility sits. A commitment binds when the one who will do it gives it; a word given is a word kept, or a gap learned from, without blame. If a machine could be a Player, there would be a promise with no one behind it. So the line is drawn plainly: a Player is a person, agents belong to players, and no agent plays that is not an authorized part of a Player+. An agent may carry its person's yes; it can never give one.

In play, a Player sits at a table, says what they will do, says next week whether they did and what the gap taught, puts something in the middle, tells one story a season, and carries the Flame to two or three within a week. That is the whole of what is asked. More is welcome and never required. A Player stands under their own name or a name they choose, or none, and may leave at any time, in peace.

Playing with an agent changes the reach and none of the responsibility: the person decides, the person commits, the person answers for every line. A person with a notebook and no agent is a complete player today.
