Roles

Held, not owned: a function a body needs, carried by a person for a season, one line each on the card.

In the old world a role is handed down from above — someone with authority decides what you are, you wear the mask, you perform the function. Here it works the other way. A role is recognized rather than assigned: it emerges where the gifts you carry, the longings written on you, the experience that prepared you, and the cry of the hour converge, and often others see it in you before you see it yourself. The Cell becomes a mirror.

On the card a role is one line: what it does, and what it hands to whom (The Circle Sheet). That brevity is deliberate — it keeps a role a function of the body rather than a rank within it, and it makes handing over cheap. Every role is service, revocable, and rotating; a role held forever quietly becomes a throne (Servant Leadership, Term Limits And Rotation, Accountability). A Cell does not need one of every kind, and does not assign them on the first day: begin the Quest, notice who steps into what, name what you see in one another after a few weeks, adjust as the seasons turn.

Four are named in the ordinary run of a Cell — two hosts for the season, a Keeper of the record, a Scribe who catches what was decided, and a Carrier for each new Cell planted. Beyond them the canon names archetypal currents rather than job titles — keepers, pathfinders, guardians, weavers, voices, healers, builders, visionaries, integrators — as things to recognize when they rise in someone, not costumes to hand out.
