Situational awareness

You do not need to know everything. You do need to know enough — enough to act wisely, serve faithfully, and stay connected to the whole while doing your part in the particular.

In a body with no command centre, nobody is briefed. What each person knows is what they have gone and found out, and that makes knowing enough a responsibility rather than a service someone owes you. The canon states it that way deliberately: situational awareness is not optional, and it is not a dashboard.

Enough is specified at three scopes, as questions a person should be able to answer at any time. Your Cell: what is our current Quest; what did we commit to this week and are we on track; who here needs support right now; when do we next gather (Keep Promises Visible, The Turn). Your neighbourhood: what are the Circles near us working on; what needs have surfaced that we might meet; what is available in the local Commons (Requests and offers, The Board). The whole: where are we against the long strategy; what milestones are approaching; what has been learned elsewhere that we should know (The 10 Year Grand Strategy, Milestone, The Return).

The three scopes are chosen, not arbitrary. Someone who knows only their own table cannot coordinate; someone who knows only the whole has nothing to contribute to it; and a body whose members have lost touch with either end cannot move together without being pushed.

What keeps the answers current is relationships and rhythm rather than a feed. The weekly gathering holds the first scope, occasional assemblies the second, ordinary conversation across the network the third, and the Commons is there for whatever anyone wants to go deeper on (Rhythm, Season, Join the Seasonal Gathering). That is a deliberate refusal: a body that answers the awareness problem with a dashboard has made its members consumers of a view someone else composed.

The counterpart is voice. Awareness that produces nothing is only spectating; the canon pairs the two — if something concerns you, raise it; if something should be done, propose it, and a proposal needs no permission from above, only clarity, courage and willingness to be tested (Proposal, Request For Guidance, Meaningful Objection, Sovereign Agent).
