The Starting Cohort And Its Pipeline

Twelve thousand in each of twelve guilds — a hundred and forty-four thousand — named as the operational starting point, and the formation arithmetic that would sustain it. Every number is the source's own estimate, not a measurement.

The proposition is organisational rather than mystical: to meet this hour as one body, gather the most capable twelve thousand in each of the twelve archetypal crafts, federated across every scale (The Twelve Archetypal Guilds, Federation, Levels Of Scale). Small relative to the species; claimed to be sufficient if the twelve are genuinely coherent and genuinely federated.

The pipeline arithmetic is the part that is actually shown, and it is worth walking because it is derived rather than asserted. If one guild is to hold twelve thousand at full standing, and a person's active service at that standing runs about thirty years before they transition to eldership, then roughly four hundred must complete formation each year to hold the number steady. If the walk from entry to full standing takes seven to ten years, and roughly half of those who begin discover the path is not theirs, then roughly eight hundred to a thousand must enter each year. Spread across the populated bioregions, that is on the order of two new entrants and one completion per bioregion per year.

That result is the instrument. These are small numbers, and small numbers held continuously are the whole requirement. No explosive growth is needed or wanted; what is needed is a formation pipeline that simply does not stop, across decades — entrants received at a sustainable rate by each Cell, the formation infrastructure held at community scale, the deeper intensives held at bioregional scale (The Practice Cadence, Apprenticeship, The Seven Phases, And The Pace).

Two honesties belong on the page. The cohort figure is asserted as "not aspirational" and "sufficient" with no derivation offered — nothing shows why twelve thousand rather than five or fifty. And the source's own numbers do not agree with each other: the same chapter describes both roughly twelve hundred to three thousand Circles and "roughly twelve thousand Circles" for the same guild.
