The event kinds

The small, open set of things a line of the Record can be.

What is intended: plan · activity · milestone. The word, the doing, and the gap: commit · done · learn. Who plays with whom: nominate · invite · accept · form · join · re-home. What is undertaken and exchanged: quest · request · offer · flame · issue · submittal. What was seen and vouched for: sight · witness · endorse. What changes who may write: delegate · revoke · supersede.

The set is small on purpose. Every kind added is a kind every reader, every implementation, and every person with a notebook must learn; a record with fifty kinds is a record nobody can keep by hand, and the paper floor is the guarantee that the Game runs without machinery (Screens and paper, Event).

It is open at the edges for the opposite reason. A living body meets things its vocabulary does not hold, and the honest move is to add the word rather than force the happening into a box that distorts it. Sight was added when a way was needed for anyone to hand in what they saw on the road — which is how a kind should arrive: from a real need, once, and then used (Sighting, The eight kinds of Sighting).

The grouping itself teaches what the Game is made of. Intention, promise, relationship, exchange, perception, and authority — and nothing else. There is no kind for status, no kind for approval, and no kind that lets one person write on another's behalf without a recorded delegation. What a record cannot say, a body cannot do (Commitment, Delegation, Consent).

Three of the kinds carry particular weight. Commit is the word given. Witness is the second voice that vouches, and the line that settles which of two contradictory accounts holds in a scope. Supersede is how anything is ever corrected — by a new line standing over the old, never by the old one vanishing (Witness, The Record, Every Defect Is A Gift).
