Guard the Membrane

Visibility, privacy, and safety decided on purpose — the boundary that filters exchange while honouring sovereignty.

Every association births four things, and one of them is a Selectively Permeable Membrane: a conscious boundary with consent at the door and the freedom to leave. A membrane is not a wall. A wall keeps everything out and starves the body; an open room keeps nothing and cannot be trusted with anything. What passes through, and on whose say-so, is a decision a Cell makes deliberately and writes down (Field of Agreements, Boundary).

The working rules are small and strong. Consent before visibility: nobody's name, face, or presence is published because it would be convenient. First names by default, and a request to be unlisted is honoured without explanation. What is shared inside the Cell is protected — the idea may travel, the source does not (Consent, Chatham House, Elision).

It is load-bearing because the whole body is made of what crosses membranes. Requests, offers, and commitments travel; tasks do not, and orders never do (Requests and offers, Commitment). A body that guards its membrane can afford to be generous through it — to be visible to other Cells, to make itself findable, to send its season inward — precisely because it knows what it is not sending (Connect and Collaborate With Other Cells, The Season Sheet).

And it is the floor under safety. When a member is in danger, in body or in mind, the Cell acts first and records later; no card is more important than the person at the table (Guardianship, Mend a Tension).
