The Two-Stake Principle
Every actor holds a stake in the body they are part of and in the larger Whole. Reciprocal accountability, which prevents capture in either direction.
One stake alone fails in a predictable way. A member accountable only to their own Cell optimizes the Cell and is indifferent to what that costs the wider body — many locally excellent decisions adding to a collectively incoherent result. A member accountable only upward becomes a delegate of the centre inside their own Circle, and the Circle's sovereignty quietly goes. Holding both is what makes federation work without either dissolving the parts or fragmenting the whole.
It is why membership in the Game reaches past one's own table. From the first day a member has a stake and a voice not only in their own company but in the whole; a Cell knows its home and a home knows its Cells, all the way up and all the way down. The Season Sheet is the instrument of the second stake — the one page that leaves the table each turning — and proposals travelling up on it are how a member's stake in the Whole is actually exercised.
It composes with the immediate neighbours in the architecture. Subsidiarity Of Authority says where a decision belongs; the two stakes say who must care about it. Holofractal Scaling says each scale is complete; the two stakes keep completeness from becoming isolation. Design To The Goal and the discipline of optimizing for the Whole rather than the pieces are the production-side expression of the same thing.
Its standing should be said: the principle is named repeatedly across the Pattern Language, the FSx section, and the Playbook chart, and the canon's own ledger lists it among the architecture anchors that have no page. It is a keystone that has been pointed at from many directions and never written.
