The Circle's Scorecard
One sheet for one season, a row a week: who came, what was said, what was kept, one line learned, the Offering, the flames, the story.
The Scorecard is where a Cell keeps its word. It is marked at the table, each week, by whoever is holding the pencil, in front of everyone. Nothing on it is private and nothing on it is a punishment: it records what was said and what was done, and the difference between the two is where the Game is played.
It is load-bearing because it makes a table's word checkable. A commitment counts as kept when the person who made it says it was and one other person at the table agrees — that second voice is the witness, and it is what lets a Cell's numbers be trusted by people who were not there. At the turning the columns are added and Kept as a share of made is computed: kept divided by said, as a fraction or a percentage. That number travels on line 6 of The Season Sheet and is the first number any group should know about itself.
How it is marked. At table is how many came. Said is the commitments made last week, one per line on The Questcard, plus any made outside it and spoken aloud. Kept is how many were done, with a witness. Learned is one line from anyone worth keeping — if there was The gap, this line says what it taught. Offering is what gathered in the middle, in whatever unit the table uses, written once at the top. Flames is how many people were carried the Game this week, whether or not a Cell has formed yet. Story is a tick.
And what the numbers are not: a ranking. A Cell of four that kept six of seven has done something a Cell of twelve that kept twenty of forty has not, and neither is better; they are simply seen truly. The numbers exist so that a body of ten thousand can know itself, plan, and send help where it is asked for. The Cell's worth is in its story.
